Free Space: Survive a summer day over 100 degrees!

Attend an Oakland A’s Game. Cheer on the Oakland A’s from Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento and enjoy post-game fireworks on Saturdays.

Float on the American River. A Sacramento tradition, this mellow float takes you from Gold River to River Bend Park. Rent a raft or BYO!

See the Davis Sunflower Fields. Golden blooms blanket the countryside surrounding Davis, making for picture-perfect scenery come summer.

Enjoy Water Activities. Sandy beaches, picnic areas, and boat rentals make Folsom Lake a great place to spend a summer day, especially near Granite Bay.

Enjoy Gunther’s Ice cream.  Gunther’s is a local favorite, be sure to check out their fruit freezes while you’re there.

Watch a Drive-In Movie. Sacramento has one of the last drive-in movie theaters in California, where you can watch the latest releases under the stars.

Visit the California State Fair. The California State Fair runs from July 11-27, so plan ahead and get your tickets.

Grab a Meal from a Food Truck. Lumpia, tacos, boba, nachos, curry, dumplings: whatever you’re craving, there’s a food truck in Sacramento for you.

Eat at Tower Café. This popular spot near Sacramento’s Land Park area offers all the brunch staples; their French toast is especially crave-worthy.

Picnic at the Park. Summer picnics are one of the simplest pleasures, and the Sacramento area has no shortage of parks to choose from.

Find a Street Mural. The greater Sacramento area has dozens of street murals painted by renowned local and national artists.

Take an Outdoor Hike. Some of the best local trails to explore are in the Auburn State Recreation Area. Afterward, you can cool off with a dip in the river.

Visit The Sacramento Zoo. The Sacramento Zoo is home to nearly 400 endangered animals.

Shop the Farmers’ Market. As America’s Farm-to-Fork capital, there are plenty of farmers’ markets in Sacramento where you can buy fresh fruits and veggies.

Visit a Winery. If you haven’t explored a nearby winery yet this season, it’s time to savor some wine and enjoy the scenic vineyards.

Attend Concerts in the Park. Fan of music? Attend a Concert in the Park featuring Grammy-winning artists, DJs, and other Sacramento legends.

Bike the American River Bike Trail. One of the best bike trails in Sacramento, it extends all the way to Folsom, offering water views along the way.

Ride the Old Sac Ferris Wheel. A ride on Old Sacramento’s very own Ferris wheel gives you a bird’s eye view of the river and cityscape.

Go Camping. There are plenty of camping spots around the Sacramento region, perfect for a quick getaway into nature.

Visit a Local Brewery. Sure, beer is the main draw, but many family-friendly breweries in Sacramento offer food, games, and live music too.

Host/Attend an Open House. Summer is a busy season for real estate in Sacramento, so if you’re looking for a home, be sure to schedule your open houses.

Watch a Sac Republic Game. Enjoy a summer evening and catch a match starring Sacramento’s own pro soccer team, Sac Republic FC.
