Being that Sacramento is the farm-to-fork capital of the nation, it comes as no surprise that there’s no shortage of fresh fruits and vegetables to be had here. After all, the region is surrounded by fertile farms, abundant orchards, and rolling vineyards. There are dozens of farm-to-fork restaurants in Sacramento where the chefs are proud to take advantage of the region’s bounty by focusing on local, seasonal ingredients.

But you don’t have to go out to a fancy restaurant to enjoy farm-fresh produce. There are numerous farmers’ markets throughout the region where you can find the latest harvest. In addition to fruits and vegetables, you can also find nuts, wine, honey, olive oil, meats, seafood, and cheese. Some even offer goods made by local artisans as well as live music and food trucks, so you can make a whole day (or evening) out of it.

We’ve rounded up the best farmers’ markets in the greater Sacramento region, county-by-county. From Carmichael to Cameron Park, Roseville to Rancho Cordova, following are the top spots to meet your local farmers and take home the fruits (and vegetables!) of their labor.

El Dorado County Farmers’ Markets

Cameron Park Certified Farmers’ Market

May – September | Wednesdays 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Located in the Burke Junction shopping center, this weekly market is a one-stop shop for those looking for certified organic produce. It may not be the biggest market in town, but it has all the basics if you’re looking for locally grown fruits and veggies.

El Dorado Hills Town Center Farmers Market

Year-Round | Sundays 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Locally grown fruits and vegetables are the stars of the show at this popular market held at the El Dorado Hills Town Center each Sunday. But you can also find gourmet food products such as spices, sauces, jams, and jellies, as well as local art and crafts.

Placerville Main Street Farmers’ Market

June – October | Wednesdays 4 p.m. – dusk

Held along Placerville’s historic Main Street, this farmers’ market has just about every fruit and vegetable imaginable, from juicy summer corn to strawberries and squash. They also have gourmet food items such as jams, honey, and baked goods. They even have plant starts so you can grow your own!

Placer County Farmers’ Markets 

Old Town Farmers’ Market | Auburn

Year-Round | Saturdays 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Enjoy a pleasant Saturday morning at this market held in Auburn’s quaint Old Town. Located in the old courthouse parking lot, the market has fresh produce from Placer County farms as well as flowers, baked goods and jams.

Quarry Ponds Town Center Farmers’ Market | Granite Bay

June – October | Sundays 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

The Quarry Ponds Town Center in Granite Bay hosts this weekly farmers’ market that has everything you need to make a healthy meal. Organic fruit, fresh vegetables, artisan bread, and gourmet cheese are just a few of the things you’ll find here, not to mention the opportunity to chat up local farmers.

Farmers’ Market at Fowler Ranch | Lincoln

Year-Round | Sundays 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

It doesn’t get much better than purchasing food straight from a farm! This family-run farm in Lincoln offers fruits, vegetables, meats, honey, jams, oils, bread, and desserts. There’s even a brewery onsite, complete with food trucks, so you can relax with a local beer afterward.

Blue Oaks Center Farmers’ Market | Rocklin

June – October | Saturdays 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Located in the RC Willey parking lot in Rocklin, this farmers’ market has all the fruits and veggies you would expect, as well as food items such as artisan salsa and sauces, pies and tarts, and gourmet seasonings and rubs.

The Fountains Farmers’ Market | Roseville

Year-Round | Tuesdays 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

This lively market in Roseville makes for a fun morning out with the entire family! Located near Peet’s Coffee, you’ll find a rotating selection of vendors offering their farm-fresh goods, including fresh herbs, eggs, flowers, and baked goods. After shopping, take a load off while the kids run around the playground or play in the seasonal splash fountain.

Mahany Park Farmers’ Market | Roseville

Year-Round | Sundays 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

This farmers’ market in Roseville features more than 60 farmers and vendors, as well as onsite food stands and trucks. In addition to produce, you’ll find cheese, eggs, fruit preserves, pickles, all-natural pet food, succulents and a range of specialty foods, including gluten-free baked goods. They also have local makers selling their wares, plus live music!

Sacramento County Farmers’ Markets

Bodega Days at Cesar Chavez Plaza | Downtown Sacramento

May – September | Thursdays 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

This farmers’ market, held in Downtown Sacramento, is much more than a place to get your shopping done for the week. Sure, they have plenty of seasonal fruits and veggies for purchase, but they also have food vendors so you can grab lunch while you’re at it. They also have live music.

Capitol Mall Farmers’ Market | Downtown Sacramento

May – October | Thursdays 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Another farmers’ market popular with the lunchtime crowd, the Capitol Mall Farmers Market stretches along Capitol Avenue with views of the Tower Bridge. There are fruits, veggies, flowers, wine and plenty of food trucks to grab a bite to go.

Carmichael Park Farmers’ Market

Year-Round | Sundays 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Held in leafy Carmichael Park, this market has everything you need for a pleasant Sunday morning. There are dozens of produce vendors, many of them organic, as well as honey, eggs, meat, olive oil, cheese and baked goods. Plus, they have several local craft vendors as well.

Fair Oaks Farmers’ Market

Year-Round | Tuesdays 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Held under the trees at Fair Oaks Park, this farmers’ market has much more than just local produce. They also offer eggs, meats, olives, salsa, spice rubs, and baked goods! There are also food trucks onsite as well as a craft corner where you’ll find items including wind chimes, baskets, and local art.

Historic Folsom Farmers’ Market

Year-Round | Saturdays 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Historic Folsom hosts this popular farmer’s market, which is open year-round. You can chat up the more than 40 farmers and vendors who make a weekly appearance here. Live music makes for an enjoyable market experience for the whole family.

Laguna Gateway Farmers’ Market | Elk Grove

Year-Round | Saturdays 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

This small farmers’ market in Elk Grove packs a punch! It has everything you need when it comes to fresh produce, as well as farm-fresh eggs, local wines, honey, baked goods and more.

Mckinley Park Farmers’ Market | East Sacramento

Year-Round | Sundays 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

This small farmers’ market in East Sacramento has everything you need to fill your fridge for the week: fruits, vegetables, eggs, bread, poultry, herbs and prepared food such as hummus and salsa. They also have food trucks so you can grab a bite to eat and relax in the park.

Midtown Farmers’ Market

Year-Round | Saturdays 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Located near the intersection of 20th and K streets in Midtown Sacramento, this bustling farmers’ market offers something for everyone. Sure, you can find lots of locally grown, seasonal produce, but they also have an entire section made up entirely of local arts and crafts, and another with food trucks. You can grab a bite to eat and enjoy the live music and other entertainment, which includes cooking demonstrations and activities for kids.

Oak Park Farmers’ Market

April – November | Saturdays 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Operated by the Food Literacy Center, the goal of the Oak Park Farmers’ Market is simple: they want everyone to eat their vegetables! The market began in 2010 to help local residents access fresh, healthy produce. Since then, it has grown exponentially and now features not only fruits and vegetables, but also gourmet food such as artisan bread, locally roasted coffee beans, specialty cut flowers, handmade bath and body products and much more.

Orangevale Farmers’ Market

May-October | Thursdays 3 – 8 p.m.

Bring the whole family to this weekly market held at Community Center Park in Orangevale. They offer fruits and vegetables, olive oil, hot sauce, coffee, and baked goods. Plus you can grab a bite to eat, including woodfired pizza, burgers, or tacos. Best of all, Thursdays is Band and Brews night, with live music, beer and wine. 

Palladio Farmers’ Market | Folsom

Year-Round | Wednesdays 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

More than 50 local vendors set up shop at this weekly market in Folsom. In addition to certified organic farmers, there are also vendors offering plant starts and succulents, gourmet prepared foods, and handmade crafts and art. Have a sweet tooth? Local bakers sell pies, cookies and other treats.

Sacramento Certified Farmers’ Market | Sacramento

Year-Round | Sundays 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Sacramento’s largest and most popular farmers’ market has changed locations over the past few years, but they finally settled down in their permanent spot, which is under the W-X Freeway near the Southside Park neighborhood. With more than 120 vendors from Northern California, you’re sure to find something that tickles your fancy. Afterwards, you can take the little ones to play in the park across the street. They also operate a year-round market at Country Club Plaza on Saturdays.

Sunrise Mall Farmers’ Market | Citrus Heights

Year-Round | Saturdays 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

This market, located near Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights, offers a plethora of good-for-you food items, such as produce, meats, eggs, nuts, and more. They also have products that are good for your pooch, including artisan dog biscuits. Handmade crafts and live music round out the offerings.

Sunrise Station Farmers’ Market | Rancho Cordova

Year-Round | Saturdays 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Stay connected to local farmers with a visit to this popular farmers’ market, held at the Sacramento RT Light Rail station at Folsom and Sunrise in Rancho Cordova. In addition to local produce, they also have gourmet food products and food to go. Plus, they have a handy-dandy, downloadable first-time guide to farmers’ markets for the uninitiated! They also operate year-round farmers’ markets in the Florin and Meadowview areas.

Yolo County Farmers’ Markets

Davis Farmers’ Market

Year-Round | Saturdays 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., Wednesdays 3 – 6 p.m.

One of the largest (and first!) farmers’ markets in California, the Davis Farmers’ Markets has hundreds of vendors from across the state. In addition to fresh produce, they have meat, seafood, eggs, nuts, wine, juice, baked goods, and much more. They also have dozens of local artisans selling everything from pottery to woodwork, quilts to candles. During the Wednesday farmers’ market, you can also enjoy live music, a wine and beer garden, entertainment, and food vendors during Picnic in the Park, held from 4–8 p.m. May through September. The Davis Farmers’ market operates in other locations as well, including Sutter Davis Hospital on Thursdays from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. May through September and Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento on Thursdays from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m.

West Sacramento Farmers’ Market

Year-Round | Sundays 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Fresh, local produce is the name of the game at this farmers’ market in West Sacramento. In addition to fruits and veggies, you can also fill up on prepared foods thanks to the food trucks on the scene, and browse the stalls featuring handmade goods from area makers.

Winters Farmers’ Market

April – October | Sundays 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Head to downtown Winters this summer and take advantage of one of the richest agricultural areas in the region! Held each Sunday, this farmers’ market offers fresh produce as well as flowers, baked goods, nuts, olive oil and much more. Plus, you can enjoy prepared foods to go.

The Woodland Farmers’ Market

May – September | Saturdays 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

June – August | Tuesdays 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

For more than 25 years, this farmers’ market in Woodland has been bringing together local farmers and their customers. With two days to choose from, there’s bound to be a market that fits into your schedule. In addition to fruits and veggies, they offer dried fruit and nuts, handmade soaps, olive oil, candy, and baked goods. Twice a month, they have a special market just for kids!
