What to Expect at GATHER: Oak Park, a Unique Food-Focused Event in Sacramento

Gather with family, friends and neighbors at GATHER: Oak Park, a monthly event reminiscent of the beloved block party. Inspired by warm California nights and the emerging trend of food culture, GATHER transforms the city into an inviting dining table in order to bring the community together. On the second Thursday of the month from May through October, GATHER meets from 5–9 p.m. at the intersection of Broadway and 3rd Avenue in Oak Park.

This annual event series is planned, organized and hosted by Unseen Heroes, a marketing, event and public relations company focused on shaping and bettering the community of Sacramento. Husband-and-wife duo Roshaun and Maritza Davis are the founders of the company — and one of the many power couples in our midst. The two are passionate about bringing the community together in creative and meaningful ways, and GATHER: Oak Park is an excellent example of that. This event was designed to create a space for engaging in conversation, sharing a meal, enjoying music and forming genuine relationships.

This unique event offers communal tables for outdoor dining (in the middle of the street!), a craft beer area, artisanal food vendors, designers, food demos, interactive art, live music, and a modular kids’ park.

Entrance to the event is completely free. Plus, there is no fee for parking. Parking may be limited during peak hours, so it might be wise to take an Uber or Lyft, or walk or ride your bike to the event if you live relatively close. After all, North Oak Park has one of the best Walk Scores and Bike Scores in Sacramento!

Upon arrival, your ID will be checked and those over 21 will receive a wristband. However, all ages are welcome at this family-friendly event! In fact, there are plenty of activities for little ones to enjoy all evening long. Dogs are also welcomed at GATHER: Oak Park! Just ensure that your four-legged family members are on leash and well-behaved throughout the evening.

Each week, GATHER has plenty of food truck vendors serving a diverse selection of culinary options. This is a convenient place to please every person (and taste preference!) in your party. Plus, there is a great selection of cocktails, beer and wine at GATHER. You can purchase drink tokens with cash and cards at any of the many tables available. This makes the transaction when purchasing alcohol that much smoother, as the event can get quite busy!

Enjoy your food truck fare and drink of choice at any of the communal tables, designed to encourage conversation and the valuable experience of sharing a meal with others. This is an excellent opportunity to get to know your neighbors and get connected to the heartbeat of the community in Oak Park.

If you’d rather, you can bring a blanket and relax near the stage to hear live music playing throughout the evening. This is an easy way to stake out a space for your family or group of friends, especially as the event fills up!

GATHER: Oak Park even includes an artisan alley, featuring the works of several talented local artists. There is also a lounge area designed for laid-back conversation and mingling, and a kids’ area with a number of activities for all ages.

The event takes place between Old Soul Co. at Forty Acres, an adorable coffee shop, and DISPLAY: California, the retail space Unseen Heroes works out of. You could make a day out of exploring the area’s many amazing shops, restaurants and bars, then wind up at GATHER: Oak Park for an evening focused on all things food, beer, live music, and community.
