Think things slow down in the Sacramento area once the cooler weather hits? Think again! Falling leaves and shorter days may mean more time inside for some people, but in Sacramento, it means it’s time to get out and enjoy everything autumn has to offer. From harvest festivals to haunted houses, trick or treating to craft fairs, there are plenty of things to do in Sacramento and beyond this October. So gather up the family, put on your coziest sweater, and take advantage of the many October events in the region.
Family-Friendly Fall Festivals in the Sacramento Region

Auburn Harvest Festival | Auburn | Oct. 17
Held at Recreation Park, this family-friendly fall event includes a pumpkin weigh-off, a costume contest, and a costume parade. In addition, the free event includes carnival games, vendor booths, live music and entertainment, and plenty of food.
Winters Harvest Fest | Winters | Oct. 23-25
Pumpkin painting, a car show, and kids’ games are just a few of the activities scheduled for this three-day event in Winters. On Friday evening, the kiddos can go trick-or-treating, while Saturday features an open-air market and live music. A spooktacular fun run rounds out the event on Sunday.
Halloween Events in the Greater Sacramento Area
Halloween at Hagan | Rancho Cordova | Oct. 24
One of the best Halloween celebrations in the region, Halloween at Hagan in Rancho Cordova has everything you’d expect in a fun fall festival: trick-or-treating, a Zombie run, carnival games, food, and live music. Costumes are encouraged!

Zombie Bike Parade | Davis | Oct. 31
Thousands of costumed riders take to the streets of Davis on Halloween for this annual event. Everyone is invited to participate, and you don’t have to ride to participate — the event includes a festival at Community Park with inflatables, crafts, music, food, and a BMX stunt show. There’s even a zombie-themed skydiving show and trick-or-treating at local businesses.
Halloween Spooktacular | El Dorado Hills | Oct. 31
El Dorado Hills Town Center transforms into a safe “neighborhood” for trick-or-treating during this free annual event. Participating businesses will dole out candy, and there’s even a parade featuring costumed pets. In addition, there will be music and a costume contest.
Wags to Witches | West Sacramento | Oct. 31
Why should two-legged revelers have all the fun? At Drake’s: The Barn in West Sacramento, your four-legged friends get to celebrate Halloween too. The dog-centric event includes a pup pageant/costume contest, which includes best dog-and-person costume couple. You can also browse vendor booths, join a dance party, and enjoy food and drinks.
Don’t ghost these West Sacramento homes—they won’t be on the market forever.
Sacramento-Area Haunted Houses
Sacramento Scream Park | North Highlands | Sept. 25-Nov. 7
Located in North Highlands, this haunted compound is actually four haunted houses in one. This year, the attractions include a scary swamp, an abandoned amusement park, a haunted hospital, and a homecoming horror. There’s also a mini escape room, a gift shop, and food trucks.

Corbett’s House of Horrors | Davis | Oct. 2-31
Spread across 15 acres, this spooky attraction in Davis features several different experiences, including Medical Mayhem, the Scarecrow Corntrail and CarnEvil. The signature event, the zombie paintball attack, allows visitors to shoot at zombie targets with paintball guns while riding through the farm on a specially rigged trailer.

Haunted Forest | Camino | Oct. 3-31
This Christmas tree farm in the Apple Hill area near Placerville puts the holiday cheer on hold to instead deliver a day of spooky vibes to visitors. A walking trail through the woods passes Halloween scenes, animatronics, and a foggy ambiance. The fear factor is pretty tame compared to other Halloween attractions in the region, making it a good choice for those with young children.

Golfland Sunsplash Fright Nights | Roseville | Oct. 3-31
Located in Roseville, this otherwise cheery mini-golf course/waterpark turns darker come October with the Gauntlet, a haunted maze featuring actors, animatronics, and special effects. There’s a mild version earlier in the night for younger children, while entry times later at night are a bit scarier. Or, you can bypass it all and instead play a round of minigolf on a graveyard-themed course.
