Things to Do This Month in the Sacramento Region: July
It’s summertime, and if you’re looking for things to do in Sacramento, you’re in luck. This time of year, it seems as though there’s always something going on, from concerts to festivals, art showcases to sporting events. July, of course, is the month we celebrate our nation’s independence, and with it being America’s 250th birthday, there are plenty of Fourth of July events in the greater Sacramento area as well. But there are plenty of other ways to enjoy July as well, so we’ve rounded up the best things to do in the Sacramento region this July.

Folsom Pro Rodeo | July 2–4 | Folsom
Held every year over Fourth of July weekend, the Folsom Pro Rodeo is one of the largest in the state. It features all the events you’d expect, such as bull riding, barrel racing, roping, and mutton busting. They also have live music, performances, food vendors, and fireworks. The event kicks off with a Hometown Parade and Cattle Drive through Historic Folsom.

California Classic | July 4–6 | Golden One Center
Basketball fans don’t have to wait until fall to get their Kings fix — the California Classic is a three-day tournament featuring new talent from the Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks and Golden State Warriors. The event features a total of six exhibition games, plus family-friendly entertainment and activities.

ArtMix | July 9 | Downtown Sacramento
Art lovers can get an after-hours peek at the Crocker Art Museum during its monthly ArtMix event, which blends art, music, food, and nightlife. The adults-only event features live band karaoke, a vendor market, and specialty cocktails. Each month features a different theme; in July, it’s “Theme Party,” which means you decide.
2nd Friday ArtAbout | July 10 | Davis
Held the second Friday of the month in downtown Davis, this free, monthly event invites visitors to stroll local art galleries after hours. Many venues host artists’ receptions, open studios, and hands-on activities, and some offer food and wine. There is also an artisans fair and live entertainment throughout town as well.

Golden Bear Film Festival | July 10–12 | Folsom
Held at the Harris Center in Folsom, the Golden Bear Film Festival celebrates independent filmmaking across the globe. The event features screenings of feature films, documentaries, short films, and animated works, as well as panel discussions, networking events, and awards presentations.

Young Frankenstein | July 10–19 | Downtown Sacramento
The comedic genius of Mel Brooks comes to the Music Circus this summer for Young Frankenstein. Based on the classic film, the musical tells the tale of the grandson of the famous Victor Frankenstein as he reluctantly tries to carry on the family legacy. The live orchestra and theater-in-the-round presentation makes this a fun, family-friendly production.
Second Saturday | July 11 | Midtown Sacramento
Midtown Sacramento comes alive during this monthly art walk, which features gallery openings, theater performances, pop-up markets, and public art installations. Visitors can browse galleries after hours, shop from local businesses and makers, and catch live street performances. In addition, many area restaurants and bars offer food and drink specials.

California State Fair | July 17–Aug. 2 | Cal Expo
The California State Fair returns this July to Cal Expo, offering more than two weeks of rides, music, agriculture, and of course, food. There are thrilling carnival rides for all ages, livestock exhibits, and hands-on demonstrations like cooking and gardening. You can also browse the exhibit halls to see the best in photography, fine art, and textiles. As always, food is a major draw, and you’ll find everything from the classic corn dog and funnel cake to farm-to-table cuisine and everything in between.
Candlelight Concerts | July 18 | Old Sacramento
Candlelight Concerts bring themed performances to various venues, all under the glow of flickering candlelight. For July, the theme is Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, the 18th-century violin concerti, with a few bonus pieces thrown in for fun. It will be held at the California State Railroad Museum for a musical experience unlike any other.
Nate Bargatze | July 18 | Roseville
One of today’s most popular comedians, Nate Bargatze brings his clean, observational humor to Thunder Valley this July. Known for his great storytelling and relatable takes on everyday life, Bargatze has several comedy specials, has hosted a podcast, and has made numerous television appearances.

NASCAR Midsummer Classic | July 25 | Roseville
Ready for an action-packed night of stock car racing? Head to the All-American Speedway in Roseville this July. You can watch drivers in multiple divisions as they battle for position. In addition to the races, there’ll be live entertainment, food, and drinks.
Tastes of Town Center | July 25 | El Dorado Hills
Explore everything El Dorado Hills has to offer during this food-focused event. You can sample a variety of tasty bites from area eateries, as well as beer and wine. In addition, there’s a reception at Atrium Gallery, where you can find the works of local artists. There’s also live jazz.

Summer Harvest Days | July 25–26 | Apple Hill
It’s never too early to celebrate the harvest in Apple Hill! This weekend event welcomes visitors with U-pick summer fruit, farm tours, and plenty of family-friendly activities. You can meet local growers and enjoy the lovely views ahead of the hectic October season.
Bill Burr | July 25 | Roseville
Acclaimed comedian Bill Burr brings his sharp wit and unapologetic humor to Thunder Valley Casino this summer. The stand-up comedian, podcaster, actor, writer, and director is known for his “rage-filled humor” about modern life, relationships, and everyday frustrations.

Bat Talk & Tour | Ongoing | Davis
Every summer evening, thousands of Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from their roosts under the Yolo Causeway to feast on flying insects. You can watch the spectacle with a tour from the Yolo Basin Foundation, which provides educational insights into bat behavior and their role in local ecosystems. Tours typically begin just before sunset and last through September.
