The Perfect Game Day: Things to Do Near Sutter Health Park

Spring has officially sprung, and for sports fans, that means one thing: baseball season! Luckily, you don’t have to go far to catch a Major League Baseball game. The A’s, formerly the Oakland A’s, are now playing in Sacramento. But that’s not all! Sacramento is also home to its own Minor League Baseball team, the Sacramento River Cats, so there’ll be no shortage of baseball this year.

Both teams play at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento —  just a hop, skip, and a jump from Downtown Sacramento. If you haven’t been before, we’ve outlined everything you need to know about catching an A’s game, which can provide you with all the details of attending a game.

The 2026 season kicks off April 3 with the A’s home opener against the Houston Astros. Games will continue through the fall, wrapping up Sept. 27. Tickets are on sale now and a schedule of games is below.

Sutter Health Park certainly has its share of great food vendors, from those selling hot dogs and peanuts to ice-cold beer. But some visitors may want to fill up beforehand. In fact, making a day of attending a game is a rite of passage for Sacramento locals. The surrounding area has plenty to see and do, plus you’ll be surrounded by like-minded fans who’ll help get the energy flowing before the first pitch.

Drakes: The Barn

Located within walking distance of Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, Drake’s is a family-friendly craft brewery and tap room with an expansive beer garden (two acres to be exact). They offer everything you could imagine for a day out with friends or family: outdoor picnic tables overlooking the river, fire pits, a grassy area for playing lawn games, and plenty of seating.

Not only do they serve their own craft brew, but they also serve wine and cocktails. Plus, they offer wood-fired specialty pizzas, burgers, pub-style appetizers, and even dessert.

This year, they’re putting on a special watch party to celebrate the A’s home opener on April 3. Beginning at 4 p.m., they’ll have food and drink specials, a DJ spinning tunes, and of course, a big screen for the big game.

 Old Sacramento

If you’ve got kids in tow, a fun pre-game outing is a visit to Old Sacramento, which is just a quick walk over the scenic Tower Bridge. You can watch the boats go by on the waterfront, stroll the Gold Rush-era boardwalks, or even go mini-golfing underground. Many restaurants in Old Sac have game-day specials, including Bear & Crown, Fanny Ann’s, and Frankie’s Pizza. In addition, you’ll find discounts on souvenirs and gifts at many local shops.

If you’ve got lots of time to kill, consider a ride on a horse-drawn carriage or take a river cruise via City Cruises or the Sac Brew Boat, which has game-day discounts. You can also learn more about the city’s past at the Sacramento History Museum, which offers tours above and below ground. You can also pay a visit to the California State Railroad Museum to learn about the history of train travel. They also offer excursion train rides.
