Things to Do With Dad This Father’s Day
Father’s Day is June 15, and there are plenty of ways to celebrate dad. Sure, a card and a tie are nice, but why not spend some quality time with him? Numerous special events are scheduled for Father’s Day weekend, including river cruises, wine tasting, and live music. Or you can take dad to participate in one of his favorite pastimes, such as bowling or a round of golf. The following are some ideas.

- Father’s Day River Cruise. Treat dad to a day on the river with this one-hour cruise, which offers scenic views and a narrated tour. Bites and beverages are available for purchase.
- Father’s Day Train Ride. This special ride on the River Fox Train takes you through the scenic Yolo County countryside. There’s even a special “Man Cave” car with whiskey flights and a meat board.
- Father’s Day Truck Show. Held at Drake’s at the Barn in West Sacramento, this family-friendly event features tricked-out trucks, live music, games, and of course, beer!
- Father’s Day at Séka Hills. Dad can enjoy free wine tasting, free beef jerky bites, and live music at this midtown Sacramento tasting room. Plus, they are offering 35 percent off mix-and-match cases of wine, olive oil, and vinegar.
- Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival. Dozens of bands will be performing at this annual event in Grass Valley, which also has food, drinks, crafts, and camping under the pines.
- The Crawdad Festival. Held at Cal Expo, this lively celebration of Cajun cuisine has live music, entertainment, and local vendors. They even have karaoke and line dancing lessons.
Family-Friendly Breweries in Sacramento

If your dad is a beer lover, why not take him to one of the many family-friendly breweries in Sacramento this Father’s Day? Many of these spots have games such as cornhole, pinball, and giant Jenga, so there’s something for everyone. Hillenbrand Farmhaus Brewery in Newcastle will have live music and “really cool man stuff” like axe throwing and fly fishing demonstrations, while Dueling Dogs Brewery in Lincoln will have local vendors and live music throughout the day.

If your dad prefers wine over beer, there are plenty of great wineries in the Sacramento region he will enjoy, some of which are hosting special Father’s Day events. Miner’s Leap Winery will have live music, a taco truck, an interactive golf simulator, and a cigar bar. Matchbook Winery in Yolo County is hosting a special wine-and-taco pairing on Father’s Day. At the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg, Dad will enjoy “Reds and Ribs,” a pre-Father’s Day celebration on June 14 featuring BBQ food trucks.
Active Things to Do with Dad
If your dad likes to keep active, there are lots of fun things to do this Father’s Day. For adrenaline junkies, consider a whitewater rafting trip via Tributary Whitewater Tours in Lotus — dads raft free on Father’s Day! Or, how about rock climbing or zip lining at Quarry Park Adventures in Rocklin, which often offers Father’s Day discounts. A round of golf is another popular activity for dads, and many golf courses have special events on Father’s Day, including Bartley Cavanaugh near Elk Grove, which is hosting a Texas-style barbecue feast.

Some spots to consider include Cafeteria 15L in Midtown Sacramento, which is hosting “Dad’s Day Out” featuring breakfast and drink specials, live music, and bourbon; Frog & Slim, which will have a fixed-price three-course brunch menu; and Butcher & Barrel, which will have a special curated menu. Another fun activity is Father’s Day Burgers & Beer at Punch Bowl Social in Downtown Sacramento, where you can get $5 Lagunitas, deals on food, and half off bowling and karaoke.
