Exploring the Best Vegan Dining Options in the Region
WITH GUEST BLOGGER: SACTOWN BITES
Sacramento and its neighboring counties are filled with incredible dining experiences, and the vegan scene is no exception. As a food tour operator, I’m always on the lookout for new flavors and hidden gems wherever I go. Our region’s food scene is truly diverse and eclectic, and we’re fortunate to have such a wide array of options to suit any preference. My family loves to eat plant-based food from time to time, and I can say from personal experience that we’re never short on exciting options.
Whether you’re just starting to explore plant-based eating or you’re a seasoned vegan, the variety in our area is sure to satisfy every craving. From creative hand pies in Placerville to colorful street tacos in Midtown, here are some of my favorite vegan and vegan friendly spots around the region
Pies of the World & Enchanted Forest – Placerville
For a whimsical dining experience, head to Placerville where Pies of the World and its sister restaurant Enchanted Forest offer savory hand pies with vegan options. Hand pies are the perfect food. If you’ve never had one, they are similar to a calzone or empanada and filled with a variety of yummy fillings. Whether you’re in the mood for something hearty or a touch of magic, both spots will charm you with their creative takes on comfort food and vegan options.

Vegan Circus (Food Truck)
If you’re in the mood for some fun and carnival-inspired food, track down the Vegan Circus food truck. Serving up 100% vegan circus food, it’s perfect for those who love the thrill of fair food without any animal products. Think corn dogs, pretzels with ‘cheese’ sauce, funnel cake dusted with dragon fruit powder , and organic cotton candy.
Pushkin’s – Roseville
With locations in Roseville and Sacramento, Pushkin’s is known for its gluten-free goodies, however, they also have a delightful array of vegan options. From mouth-watering pastries to savory cafe dishes, their dedication to quality makes it a must-visit. We are a sucker for their nachos to start. And their vegan sandwiches are inventive and crave worthy, such as their Spicy Adult Grilled Cheese or their Portobello Cruzer sandwich made with roasted portobellos and topped with fig jam and pesto! If you’re exploring Placer County further afield, you could also visit Mountain Lotus Cafe in Truckee for plant-based bowls and beverages, or Pho Vegan Asian Cuisine in Rocklin for a warm and flavorful Vietnamese meal.

House of Shah Eats – Woodland
This family owned Afghan restaurant offers a delicious menu with many vegan-friendly options, showcasing the bold and aromatic flavors of Afghan cuisine. From rice dishes to hearty stews, it’s a hidden gem in Woodland for vegans looking for something different. Our favorite is the mouthwatering Bonjon Burani – braised eggplant stewed with tomatoes, jalapeno and onions.
Three Ladies Cafe – Davis
For a more casual vibe, Three Ladies Cafe in Davis serves up refreshing smoothies and a fully vegan menu. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or enjoying a smoothie bowl, it’s a laid-back spot with something for everyone. Their menu has everything from wraps to bowls. We love their Tofu Curry over Rice – House made curry with coconut milk, tofu, chickpeas, tons of veggies, and served with brown rice. Pair that with a fresh pressed juice and your body will rejoice! I love the Sweet Beet – a combo of pressed beets, carrots, apples and ginger.

Himalaya Vegan Organic – Natomas
A peaceful oasis for 100% vegan and organic dishes, Himalaya Vegan Organic in Natomas is perfect for those looking for nourishing, mindful meals. Their dishes are not only vegan but focus on clean, wholesome ingredients.
Bambi Vegan Tacos – Midtown
Midtown Sacramento is home to Bambi Vegan Tacos, a lively taco joint that’s 100% vegan with an unbeatable atmosphere. Offering creative cocktails and an array of flavorful tacos, this is the perfect spot for a fun night out with friends. Their menu is inventive and a fresh take on vegan food with a Mexican twist. The Bambi is their classic taco and most popular. Made with Crmini ‘beef’ in a crispy parmesan shell stuff with crema slaw. I’m obsessed with their Chioggia Poke which is like Hawaiian Ahi Poke served with crispy wontons. It’s delicious paired with one of their herbaceous cocktails.
Your dream home in Sacramento awaits.
But seriously, that’s just the beginning. Sacramento’s vegan scene is vast, with beloved spots like Pure Soul (East Sac), Mother (Midtown), Veg Cafe (Midtown), and the casual retro vibes of Sunflower Drive-In (Fair Oaks) all offering something special. You can explore even more options during Sacramento’s Vegan Chef Challenge—an exciting event where local restaurants showcase their best plant-based dishes veganchefchallenge.org.
