Get Rolling During Bike Month with the Help of These Sacramento Area Bike Shops

It’s no secret that the greater Sacramento area is one of the most well-known cycling spots in the nation. Shady streets, scenic views, and extensive trail networks, including the American River Bike Trail, make it a pedaller’s dream. It’s also the launching-off point for many foothill mountain bike trails as well.

One of the Sacramento area’s cities is known far and wide for its commitment to cycling. The city of Davis has earned Platinum status by the League of American Bicyclists and is considered the bicycle capital of the U.S. Not only are there miles and miles of pathways and bike lanes, it’s home to the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame.

May is National Bike Month, a time to celebrate all the benefits of bicycling, from its health benefits to the impact it has on the environment. The designation encourages brand-new cyclists to give it a try and inspires those who haven’t done it in a while to hop back on. And the old saying is true: you never forget how to ride a bike.

With such a strong bicycling culture, it’s no surprise that there are numerous bike shops throughout the region. Whether you’re looking to buy some new wheels, give a new home to a refurbished bike, or repair a bike that’s seen better days, there are lots of options. Some of the big players on the scene include Neighborhood Bike Shop, which has locations in Sacramento, Elk Grove, and Carmichael; Mike’s Bikes, which has locations in Folsom, Roseville, and Downtown Sacramento; and Trek Bicycle, which has locations in Midtown Sacramento, El Dorado Hills, and Folsom.

Otherwise, you’ll find plenty of smaller, locally-owned shops that not only sell new and used bikes, they also offer repairs and, in some cases, put on workshops and special events. So, hit up one of the following bike shops in the Sacramento area, and have fun exploring the many bike trails in Sacramento (or just tool around in your own neighborhood!
