Something for Everyone at East Sac’s Selland’s Restaurant
We all have that one go-to restaurant in our neighborhood. The one you take your out-of-town visitors and finicky-eating kids to. It’s the place that is always consistent. That is always good. In East Sac, that restaurant is Selland’s Market-Café on H and 53rd Street.
We typically hit Selland’s weekly for their $25 Dinner For Two and Bottle of Wine Special – usually it’s on a Thursday when I can’t bear to cook another meal at home. The special always changes, but a recent summer dish included BBQ Chicken with a Cavatappi Pasta Salad and Buttered Corn on the Cobb served with a bottle of red wine. Perfect for me and my husband.
My sons (8 and 11) typically order a number of side dishes and share them. Their favorites are the BBQ Beef Brisket, which is braised in Selland’s own BBQ sauce, the Macaroni & Cheese, four cheeses mixed and topped with toasted breadcrumbs, and the creamy, decadent mashed potatoes.
Dinner at Selland’s would not be complete without one of their homemade cupcakes for dessert. The challenging part is trying to choose just one. There is Chocolate Chip, Double Strawberry, Funfetti, Peaches and Cream, S’Mores and my preferred delicacy, Red Velvet.
Another positive – at Selland’s you order at the counter. Waiters bring out the dishes, making for a streamline process. Many of the tables are set up for communal eating so you’ll be rubbing elbows with your neighbors or making new friends.
