Sac Happenings in March – What’s Good, Different, and Just Going On

London Symphony Orchestra at the Mondavi Center, March 21 – Who needs to cross the pond or head to San Francisco for world-class culture and entertainment? Widely considered one of the world’s leading orchestras, the London Symphony Orchestra makes its Jackson Hall premiere with Shostakovich’s “Second Piano Concerto,” Britten’s “Four Sea Interludes” and Sibelius’ “Second Symphony.” The Mondavi Center for the Arts is located at UC Davis.

19th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Old Sacramento, March 14 – The Irish do parades like no one else.  Bagpipes, Highland dancers, and Celtic costumes make this parade is not-to-be-missed. The annual outing attracts thousands of spectators, who line the streets of Old Sacramento to watch more than 1,000 of marchers demonstrate their Irish pride.

Foothills Celebration in Downtown Grass Valley, March 7 – There’s nothing like celebrating spring while strolling, shopping, and sipping some of the Foothills finest wines. More than 30 varietals of wine will be featured and local chefs will have some of their favorite dishes available for sampling.

Sacramento Food and Film Festival, March 18-29 – Two of everyone’s favorite pastimes – movies and food – come together for a myriad of cultural events. The Sacramento Food and Film Festival features educational films and food events to help create a community dialog to improve food literacy and invoke action to improve the food system. The Food and Film Festival premier on the 19th screens the festival’s winning short films paired with culinary creations from the executive chef of Mother and Empress Tavern. Other events include a showing of The Farmer and the Chef at Ruhstaller Brewery and Tap Room; The Hundred Foot Journey at Lucca; and Soul of A Banquet at Frank Fat’s Catering Facility.
