Fall is no doubt one of the most popular times of year for family photos. The colorful crimson and yellow leaves make for a great backdrop and the golden light is just right. From parks to bridges to rustic barns, following are some of the best spots in the greater Sacramento area for fall family photos.

Folsom Lake | Folsom, Granite Bay & El Dorado Hills

Straddling Folsom, Granite Bay and El Dorado Hills, Folsom Lake has plenty of spots to take fall family photos. The shoreline is framed by golden grasses and trees in shades of yellow, orange, and red, which strike a contrast against the blue water. There are also cliffside perches that offer sweeping views. One of the most popular photo spots on Folsom Lake is the Willow Creek Recreation Area in Folsom, especially at sunset.

Cronan Ranch | Pilot Hill

Cronin Ranch is a nature preserve near Pilot Hill in El Dorado county that is crisscrossed by trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Ancil Hoffman Park | Carmichael

Located along the American River Parkway near Carmichael, Ancil Hoffman Park offers beautiful woodlands and open meadows ideal for fall photography. Early in the morning or late afternoon, the light filters through the trees, creating a warm, natural glow that’s perfect for family portraits. Although Marshall Gold Discovery State Park is best known as the spot where gold was discovered 175 years ago, it’s also a scenic area with hiking trails and picnic tables.
