Being that Sacramento is the Farm-to-Fork Capital of the nation, it comes as no surprise that it’s surrounded by farms. Many of these farms also grow pumpkins, and come autumn, many open their gates and welcome visitors to explore their pumpkin patches. There’s no need to settle for a store-bought pumpkin when you can pick one right from the patch! Many of the farms also offer other unique activities that are sure to get you in the fall mood, from hay rides to corn mazes. Plus, you can fill up on fall fare such as caramel apples and fresh-pressed apple cider. Dave’s Pumpkin Patch | West Sacramento

Dave’s Pumpkin Patch at Vierra Farms in West Sacramento promises the ultimate fall experience. They have pony rides, a large jumping balloon, a corn maze, hay rides, and of course, a pumpkin patch. In fact, they have more than two acres of pumpkins to choose from. Hungry? They also sell apple cinnamon donuts and other snacks.

Nick and Ray’s Pumpkin Patch | Natomas

Located at historic Bastiao Farms in North Natomas, this pumpkin patch provides just the right amount of fright. There’s a haunted mine and mining town, as well as a hay pyramid, corn maze, train rides, and more than 30 different varieties of pumpkins. They even have food trucks available on weekends, plus shaded picnic areas.

Boa Vista Orchards | Placerville

This large farm in the Apple Hill area near Placerville has everything you’d expect in a pumpkin patch, including U-pick pumpkins, train rides, face painting and breathtaking scenery. They also sell apples of every variety, as well as apple goodies such as pie, donuts, pastries, and cider. In addition, you can grab a barbecue lunch and shop at their artisan market to pick up local, handmade products.

If you have young children, this farm in Wilton is THE place to go for the quintessential pumpkin patch experience. Sure, they have pumpkins galore, but they also have farm animals, a petting zoo, hay rides, and a giant haystack for climbing. Bring your sweet tooth, because they also have a sugar shed with caramel apples, fudge, and lemonade.

Fowler Ranch | Lincoln

If you’re looking for a pumpkin patch experience the whole family will love, consider this all-in-one farm, farmers’ market, pumpkin patch, and brewery in Lincoln. They have a wide variety of pumpkins available in every size, shape and color. On Sundays, they have a certified farmers’ market. There’s also a brewery onsite, featuring craft brews like lager and IPAs, plus a rotating lineup of food trucks.

Bobby Dazzler’s Pumpkin Patch | Woodland

In operation for more than 40 years, this traditional pumpkin patch in Woodland is fun for the whole family. They have more than 90 varieties of pumpkins, squash and gourds, plus a cow train, a petting zoo, face painting, a corn bath, a hay pyramid and much more. There’s also a snack bar to quiet those grumbling tummies.

Zittel Farms | Folsom

This picturesque pumpkin patch in Folsom offers pumpkins in all shapes, sizes, and colors, as well as ornamental squash and gourds. You can keep the little ones busy with a hay ride through the farm, a meet-and-greet with farm animals, or a pony ride. They also have a large selection of antiques, handicrafts, preserves, and honey for sale.

This friendly family farm in Loomis is a good choice for a day out with the little ones. They have four acres of pumpkins to choose from, plus a two-acre corn maze for exploring. You can take a tractor tour of the farm and even try your hand at the giant pumpkin slingshot launcher!

O’Halloran’s Apple Trail Ranch | Camino

At three acres, this quaint farm in Camino has one of the largest pumpkin patches in the entire Apple Hill area, as well as a U-pick, on-the-vine pumpkin patch. They also have decorative gourds and squash. While you’re there, you can pick up some fresh apples or pears, enjoy the lovely picnic grounds, or explore the scenic walking trail.

Impossible Acres | Davis

This working farm in Davis is known for their U-pick produce throughout the summer. But come October, it transforms into the ultimate U-pick pumpkin patch! They also have an animal barn where you can get up close and personal to farm animals such as goats, rabbits, bunnies, ducks, and pigs.

Located in Elk Grove, this family-run country farm is a great place to spend a fall day. They have a corn maze, a hay ride, farm animals, a hay pyramid and hay maze, and of course plenty of pumpkins for pickin ‘. On the weekends, they feature craft vendors and face painting, as well as food vendors including barbecue and ice cream.
