Where to Get Some (Indoor) Exercise in the Sacramento Area

January in Sacramento typically means blue skies and very little precipitation, making it a popular time to burn off that holiday indulgence with a bit of outdoor exercise. But this year, an atmospheric river left Sacramento pummeled with nonstop rain for weeks, making it difficult to get out for those winter walks, bike rides, sports and other outdoor pursuits.

The rain is on hold for now, but storms are expected to return. Regardless, chilly temps may mean many people are still hibernating inside. So how to hit those fitness goals? Head inside to one of the many gyms, fitness centers and community centers and take advantage of the sports facilities they offer — no membership required. Whether you’re interested in basketball, golf, swimming or climbing, there are plenty of options where you can get the blood pumping while staying warm and dry.
