The Best Halloween Events in the Greater Sacramento Area

Before we know it, our streets will be taken over by little goblins and ghouls (not to mention dinosaurs and fairies) on their annual quest for candy. But not everyone wants to wait until Oct. 31 to celebrate Halloween. And some of us are, ahem, a bit too old to trick-or-treat. Luckily for all the Halloween lovers out there, the greater Sacramento area plays host to numerous events where you can let your spook flag fly, no matter your age. And, if you’re still without a costume, we’ve got plenty of last-minute Halloween costume ideas as well! Following are some of the best Halloween events coming up in the Sacramento region.

Pumpkin Patch Express | West Sacramento

Hop on board the River Fox Train in West Sacramento for its special journey to the pumpkin patch! The one-hour train ride through the Yolo County countryside culminates at a pumpkin patch where kiddos can pick the perfect pumpkin and play carnival games. Costumes are encouraged and the kids can even trick or treat on board. There’s also wine and beer available for grown-ups. Speaking of train rides, you can also take a Halloween-themed ride on the new Track or Treat Train offered by the California State Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento.

Safe & Super Halloween | Fairytale Town

The littlest trick or treaters can do so safely at Fairtyale Town in Land Park during their annual Halloween event, held Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 22–23. In addition to treat stations, there will also be a costume parade and hands-on activities. This year, the theme is “In the Age of Dragons.”

Trunk or Treat | Rocklin

Quarry Park Adventures in Rocklin is hosting its annual Trunk or Treat event Oct. 29 from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. There will also be face painting, arts and crafts, and a kid-friendly maze and scavenger hunt. Best of all, kids can play in the Kids Kove for just $5.

Zombie Bike Ride | Davis

Put on your worst suit, your dirtiest dress, and your most torn-up shoes (or your favorite Halloween costume) and join the rest of the undead for the Zombie Bike Ride in Davis. From 12–3 p.m. on Oct. 30, ride the Davis Bike Loop and encounter zombies like you’ve never seen them before. There’ll be a Halloween marching band, a flash mob, photo ops, and a costume contest. That evening, join a fundraising show by comedian/MTV personality Brent Pella. The following day, bring the kiddos to downtown Davis for some trick or treating. Best of all, proceeds benefit NorCal Trykers, a local nonprofit that provides adaptive tricycles to children with special needs.

Halloween Spooktacular | El Dorado Hills

Trick or treating, a costume contest and a photo contest are the highlights of the Halloween Spooktacular, to be held in the El Dorado Hills from 3–6 p.m. Oct. 31. You can even bring your dog — there’ll be a costume contest for pooches too!

Halloween Festival & Pooch Parade | Midtown Sacramento

Sign your pup up for this annual doggie costume parade in Midtown Sacramento on Oct. 29 from 12–3 p.m. Held at Marshall Park, the event also features a festival with kid-friendly activities, live music, a magician and puppet show, pumpkin bowling and a bounce house.

Trick or Treat Festifall | Folsom

Historic Folsom is hosting some good, old-fashioned trick or treating this year, courtesy the merchants on Sutter Street. The event will be held Saturday, Oct 29 from 2–5 p.m. In addition to candy, there will also be carnival games, live performances and bounce houses.

Halloween Pub Crawl | Sacramento

Sacramento’s largest and longest-running pub crawl is back this year, to be held Saturday, Oct. 29 at a top-secret location TBD. Tickets include your first drink, cover charges, and food and drink specials at every stop. There’s even a costume contest for the best-dressed pub-crawler, with $50 going to the grand prize winner.
