Summer Makers’ Markets & Pop-Ups in the Greater Sacramento Area
Sacramento is known as a city whose residents love the outdoors. A temperate climate (especially warm summer nights) means outdoor dining, movies under the stars, farmers’ markets and open-air concerts happen throughout most of the year.
Another trend has also taken over the greater Sacramento area: pop-up markets! These outdoor events allow local makers to show off their wares in a lively setting, often with music, food and drinks to boot. From jewelry to home décor, gourmet food items to plants, these pop-ups are a great opportunity to support local businesses and pick up some unique, hand-made items. Following are some of the top makers’ markets and pop-ups in and around the greater Sacramento area.
Thursday Night Markets
These weekly pop-up markets feature handmade goods by local artists: jewelry, artwork and home décor just to name a few. Co-sponsored by Warehouse Creative, a curated makers’ shop in Old Sacramento, the markets are held 5–8 p.m. through the summer at Ali Youssefi Square at 7th & K streets. In addition to handmade goods, there will also be live music plus food and drinks for sale, courtesy of Tiger bar.
Art Market at the Galleria
This two-day pop-up at the Westfield Galleria in Roseville features art pieces and goods from makers throughout the region. Although initially scheduled as an outdoor event on the promenade, it has been moved inside due to expected hot temperatures. The event will be held from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. July 10 and 11 a.m.–4 p.m. July 11. There will also be demonstrations by local artists!
River City Marketplace
River City Marketplace is one of the largest organizers of pop-ups and outdoor markets in the region. They have several events throughout the summer: R Street Marketplace, along the 1300 block of R Street every first and third Saturday; DOCO Makers Market, the last Saturday of each month at Downtown Commons; 4th Fridays at Berryessa Brewing Company in Winters; and Vintage + Vinyl at Solomon’s in Downtown Sacramento the first Sunday of the month.
Davis Craft & Vintage
First Sundays throughout the year, artisans set up shop in the Central Park Pavilion in Davis to showcase their unique handmade goods and vintage items. You’ll find homemade jams and jellies, pottery, beauty products and leather goods, just to name a few.
Wednesdays at Winn
Wednesdays at Winn is a certified farmers’ market held each week from 3-7 p.m. at Winn Park in Midtown Sacramento. In addition to fresh fruits and veggies, they also have gourmet grocery items, locally made bath and body products, jewelry and home décor. You can do some shopping, pick up a bite to eat and have a picnic — they also have live music!
Upcycle Pop Eco Art Market
Weekends through mid-September, Atrium916 hosts an eco-friendly outdoor art market on the Old Sacramento waterfront. Held Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m.-2 p.m., the market features handmade pottery, paintings, blown glass and other unique items. You can watch artists in action, learn about sustainability and even get the kids involved in hands-on activities.
Lucky Find Market
Although they’re not outside, Lucky Find Market at the Blue Goose Event Center in Loomis puts on several pop-up events throughout the year. July 18, they’re hosting Christmas in July, a showcase of local vendors complete with holiday music. They also have a “Sip n Shop,” “Crafts & Drafts” and an Octoberfest with live music and beer.
Tomato Alley Collective Second Saturday Pop-Up
Tomato Alley Collective is a shop in Midtown Sacramento that features unique handmade products from local vendors as well as gourmet food items. On the second Saturday of each month, they hold pop-ups featuring a variety of makers, from artists to bakers and everyone in between. Note: this week’s event has been postponed due to the extreme heat. Check the website for the latest information.
