Show Dad Some Love With These Easy DIY Father’s Day Gifts
Father’s Day is just a few days away, and if you haven’t already thought about what to get dear old dad, now is the time to take action! Sure, you can probably snag overnight shipping on a tie or a bag of socks, but why not show dad you really care by making him something special? It doesn’t take any specialized skills to create a one-of-a-kind Father’s Day gift this year. There are a lot of simple DIY ideas that anyone can do, adults and kids included. So, whether you’re showing your appreciation for the man who changed your diapers or the man who made you a mother, following are some easy DIY Father’s Day gifts.
Beer Caddy With Opener
Is your dad a beer drinker? If so, you can build him a unique beer caddy (filled with his favorite brews, of course), courtesy of DIY Candy. The tutorial uses basic hobby board, and includes measurements for each piece, cut with a power saw and nailed together. You can stain or paint it whatever color you prefer. It even has a bottle opener on the side.
Flying Super Dad
This adorable superhero craft via Kids Craft Room is easy for kids to make with adult supervision (and assistance). All it takes is some craft paper, glue, yarn and a straw — plus a free downloadable template. It also comes with a fill-in-the-blank where your kids can share why they consider dad a hero.
Handprint Grill Apron
This is another Father’s Day project where the kids can get involved, thanks to That’s What Che Said. It uses a blank apron (found at any craft store) and colorful red and yellow paint to make handprint “flames.” If you don’t have a cutting machine, you can use pre-bought letters and make your own grill-shaped transfer using printable iron-on paper.
Bottle Cap Coasters
This clever DIY project from Sadie Seasongoods uses tartlet tins to make adorable bottlecap-shaped coasters. The insides are made from cork stamped with a beer-shaped motif, but you can stamp them with anything — monograms, names, even simple shapes or designs. Not only are they sure to impress dad, they’ll keep rings off your tables.
All About Dad
Father’s Day is all about showing dad some appreciation, and this free printable from The Idea Room helps your kids put their feelings into words. The result is a heartfelt keepsake that will be meaningful for years to come. You can even turn it into a sweet work of art by putting it into a nice frame.
Etched Pint Glass
Another beer-themed DIY gift (although you could also use it for water or soda) is this custom-made pint glass from Happy Hour Projects. The example shown is for a Star Wars-loving dad, but you can use any template or letters picked up at a craft store. Etching cream (also found at craft stores) turns the glass into a custom piece he’s sure to treasure.
We Heart Dad Banner
Start the day off right this Father’s Day by decorating your home with this hand-made, wood-look banner, courtesy of Sarah Hearts. It uses heavy cardstock covered in wood-grain wrapping paper (contact paper can be used instead), plus some string. Although the tutorial uses a cutting machine for the letters, it also includes a template so you can cut them out by hand.
Gone Fishing Sign
Does your dad like to fish? If so, consider making him this rustic sign via DIY Candy. A board, some paint, twine and a stencil are all it takes to make the perfect decoration for a garage, man cave or boathouse. Dad not into fishing? You can follow the tutorial and use whatever lettering you prefer.
Memory Box
Hmm, so where to store all those Father’s Day cards and keepsakes collected over the years? How about a hand-made box courtesy of Average But Inspired? You can pick up a plain, unfinished wood photo box at any craft store, stain it, and add lettering of your choice using paint and a stencil. Voila!
Framed Father’s Day Printable
This Father’s Day gift from A Night Owl Blog is for the sentimental dad, expressing the true meaning of fatherhood. The free printable can be framed in any picture frame you prefer, and makes a meaningful accent piece to your dad’s home décor.
Printable Gift Tags
No matter what you give dad for Father’s Day this year, you can take it to the next level with these printable gift tags/bottle tags via Skip to My Lou. They are designed to go on top of bottled beverages using a circle punch, but can be easily changed to gift tags by using a smaller hole punch. There are also free printable cards, coupons, and coloring pages.
