Where to Take the Kids Trick-or-Treating in the Sacramento Area 2018

If you can’t tell, we are major fans of the fall season — and by default, Halloween. With this exciting holiday comes the much-anticipated tradition of trick-or-treating. It seems as though the main goal for kids on Halloween is to collect as many sweet treats as possible! And our goal is to help them maximize their treat-collecting time. With our help, we hope you can focus more time and energy on finding the best costumes, and less time figuring out where to go trick-or-treating.
The following neighborhoods possess an extra dose of Halloween spirit, and are quite easy to maneuver with little ones. Visit them for an ideal trick-or-treating experience! Or attend one of the many trick-or-treating events happening in the area leading up to Halloween.

NEIGHBORHOODS + TOWNS
Curtis Park
The family-friendly atmosphere of Curtis Park is perfect for occasions such as this. Travel along tree-lined streets hosting historic properties decked out for the holiday, collecting treats and making friends as you go. The idyllic setting of this historic neighborhood makes it one of the best trick-or-treating destinations in the region.
Don’t miss the tiny enclave of Hollywood Park, located in the southern portion of Curtis Park. This neighborhood has a long-standing reputation of promoting a family-friendly environment and a top-notch Halloween experience for trick-or-treaters every year.
Midtown
Midtown is a wonderful place to go trick-or-treating, as the area has an exceptional Walk Score of 93 — the highest in the city. This hip, young neighborhood is filled with festive decorations on doorsteps, pretty tree-lined streets, and proximity to lots of local restaurants — perfect for a late-night snack after all that walking.
Don’t miss the area around Marshall School, a popular destination for trick-or-treaters. And the “Grand Old Gated Home” is another must-visit in Midtown. This home located on the corner of 25th and I Streets will be decked out for Halloween, accepting visitors from October 29 through 31 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Elmhurst
Elmhurst is a scenic neighborhood in East Sacramento with a strong sense of community. Elmhurst is well-known for its wide, grassy median along the main street, lined with gorgeous elk, oak, and ash trees. Trick-or-treat along this pedestrian-friendly street with bungalows, Craftsman homes, Tudors, and other historic properties.
Elk Grove
Elk Grove is a community-oriented town just south of Sacramento. People are drawn to the small-town feel, hometown pride, and community camaraderie of Elk Grove, which is maximized during holidays and local events such as Halloween. Take the family to this enchanting town with historic and new homes alike for an unforgettable trick-or-treating experience!
East Sacramento
The Fab Forties in East Sacramento is a no-brainer when scouting out the best local trick-or-treating zones. Hundreds of little goblins, mermaids, and ghosts flock to this historic neighborhood for one of the best Halloween experiences around. The residents of the Fab Forties neighborhood are heavily involved in holidays — particularly Christmas — and Halloween is no exception. Explore the elaborate architecture and festive Halloween decor in this renowned neighborhood this Halloween!
Roseville
While Roseville hosts a myriad of attractions in its quaint downtown, such as restaurants, cafes, shops, arts centers and more, the residential side of this town is thriving as well. After an afternoon spent perusing the downtown area, head to the neighborhoods of Roseville for an enjoyable evening collecting treats from house to house!
Auburn
In addition to the quaint downtown area of Old Town Auburn, this town situated northeast of Sacramento has an exceptional residential community, providing the perfect environment for trick-or-treaters. Head to Old Town to visit small boutiques, grab a bite to eat at a local restaurant, and experience the charming atmosphere of this historic area. Then hit the neighborhoods lined with beautiful homes shaded by lush canopies of trees for a fun Halloween experience! This well-connected and friendly community will welcome trick-or-treaters with open arms.
El Dorado Hills
Head to the hills this Halloween! The upscale city of El Dorado Hills is nestled in the Sierra Foothills, providing exceptional views of the mountains, Sacramento Valley, and Folsom Lake. Fairytale Town’s Safe & Super Halloween: Dinosaurs

Don’t miss Fairytale Town’s Annual Safe & Super Halloween event, featuring four nights of trick-or-treating family-friendly fun. Follow the dino tracks throughout the park to meet and take photos with various dinosaur species, dig for giant fossils at the excavation site, visit the reptile lab, and test your dino roar with the roar-o-meter.
This Halloween extravaganza designed for little ones features 15 treat stations, a nightly costume parade at 8:30, hands-on activities and endless fun. Plus, Sevilla Magic FX will perform “The Dino Encounter” each night at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. in Sherwood Forest. This is a special ticketed event and tickets are available in advance or at the door.
Safetyville Halloween Haunt

Safetyville’s Annual Halloween Haunt is back for another year of family-friendly fun! Head to Safetyville, the unique miniature city, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for carnival games, a costume parade, safety demonstrations and activities, and of course — trick-or-treat stations. Admission is $5 per person for those 3 years and older. Purchase a wristband for unlimited games for $10 or a family four-pack for $40!
FestiFall + Costume Contest in Historic Folsom

Head to the heart of historic Folsom for some old-fashioned trick-or-treating fun. From 1–4 p.m., go trick-or-treating at all participating merchants along Sutter Street — and don’t miss the special shows at the amphitheater! Come dressed in your best costume to participate in the costume contests at 3 p.m.

Sacramento Zoo’s Boo at the Zoo

This daytime Halloween experience is a must for kids! Slip into your finest costumes, grab a treat bag and head to the Sacramento Zoo for Boo at the Zoo. Go trick-or-treating at 15 different candy stations scattered throughout the whole zoo. Plus, enjoy face painting, festive games, themed stage shows, magic shows with Trevor the Magician, keeper chats and even animal enrichments. Top off the day with a ride on the spooky zoo train or the creepy carousel for an additional fee. Tickets to Boo at the Zoo are $16 per person (or $13 before October 21!).
Sacramento RiverTrain Trick-or-Treat Train
October 27–28, 2018
Don’t miss this unique Halloween experience aboard the Sacramento RiverTrain! Come dressed as your favorite ghost, ghoul, princess or superhero, and enjoy a 45-minute ride on the Trick-or-Treat Train to Elkhorn Park. Kids will enjoy trick-or-treating and other kid-centric activities at the park. The entire experience lasts about 2.5 hours, and the train takes off from the station at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
Funderland Fall Festival

The Funderland Fall Festival offers a weekend full of fall fun, including various activities and entertainment like trick-or-treating, a magic show, costume contests, crafts, a hay maze and much more. Don’t miss the festivities at Funderland Park on both Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Trick-or-Treating at the Sacramento Children’s Museum
October 31, 2018
On Halloween, slip on your costume and head to the Sacramento Children’s Museum for trick-or-treat stations, a costume parade and hands-on museum play. Admission is $5 per person, free for members, and free with a donation of a children’s book! Keep in mind that the museum will be open for limited hours on Halloween — from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Davis Downtown Treat Trail
October 31, 2018
Each Halloween, the community of Davis comes together for this exciting tradition. The Davis Halloween Treat Trail features trick-or-treating at various local businesses in downtown designated by an orange Treat Trail sign. This year, there will be a set trail for families to follow using a map — plus a fun scavenger hunt to follow if you choose! RSVP for the 2018 Halloween Treat Trail on the Facebook event page.
