A Folsom Designer Completely Transformed This San Francisco Home
We love a good interior design transformation. There is something so inspiring about seeing a space go from outdated or disjointed to something magnificent, updated and fresh. Local interior designer Todd Peddicord completely transformed this San Francisco home, and the results are captivating — especially after seeing its previous state!
Todd Peddicord is a Folsom-based interior designer with a large reach throughout the state of California. Todd has been designing interiors since the age of 10 and was designing and building custom furniture by 18. This early start propelled him into his career after completing his B.A. in interior design at CSUC. Todd worked at prominent design firms before starting his own firm when he was just 26 years old. His work has been featured in design magazines, home tours and national home shows, and he has been a featured speaker at various industry events.
This San Francisco home was built in 1937 and was in need of some upgrading as it had a disjointed and eclectic feel. The clients were inspired to make changes when their son left for college, and they had the opportunity to address the styling of their home and purchase all new furnishings. They wanted to maintain the integrity and character of the original architecture while updating it to reflect their appreciation for modern design, their Japanese heritage and their love for antique pieces with character and history.
Over the span of just seven months, Todd Peddicord and his team completed a dramatic remodel of this home, which included replastering walls and ceilings, refinishing floors, inputting new electrical wiring, and painting walls throughout. And of course, the addition of brand new furniture and decor really completed the look of this project.
The finished product is absolutely brilliant. The “transitional zen” look combines sentimental antiques, modern furniture, Japanese influence and traditional 1930s architecture to respect the original construction of the home.
The client was heavily involved in the overall style of the design. Todd was able to ask questions in the planning phase that provided a wealth of knowledge moving forward. He incorporated very intimate and personal pieces, such as a commissioned art piece replicating the matchbook cover for a restaurant the client’s grandmother owned in Hawaii. He also included an aerial photo of San Francisco’s Aquatic Park Cove where the husband swims every day.
Todd loves implementing certain aspects into all of his designs, such as bold wall features, large-scale elements, minimal accessories, and the utilization of the space to its fullest. He enjoys making something for his clients that is so much more beautiful than they might be able to do themselves, presenting an end result that reflects them in virtually every aspect.
The owners of this San Francisco home were very pleased with Todd’s professionalism and overall work.
“Todd has that unique ability to quickly understand a client’s taste, budget and ‘fashion vs function’ desires through well-planned questions,” they said. “He listens to and considers your every comment, incorporating personal and meaningful ideas wherever possible. We were amazed at the ideas that came from our conversations and were not disappointed when Todd’s designs became reality as he was very good at communicating the right expectations throughout the process.”
