Sacramento Cultivates Comfort Food Niche
In a region touted as America’s farm-to-fork Capitol, Sacramento retains a realistic grip on traditional comfort food. While January saw the Dine Downtown Restaurant Week, it also marks the fourth annual Bacon Fest Sacramento.
The weeklong event kicks off January 25 and is comprised of special dinners, tastings, and happy hours at some of the city’s favorite restaurants. The festival has expanded every year and this year introduces the first Bacon and Beer Bus Tour. While some of this year’s activities have already sold out, it’s worth marking on the calendar for 2017, which is sure to bring even more bacon goodness to local dining rooms.
For those who have a sweet tooth that needs soothing, there’s Cookies & Milk, a late-night cookie delivery service. The company delivers Thursday through Sunday evenings to Sac State, midtown, downtown, Curtis Park, Land Park, and East Sac areas.
Cookies may be the ultimate comfort food, as Pangaea Bier Café hosts a Milk & Cookies Night on January 21. The innovative minds at this locals’ favorite neighborhood spot will present Nitro Merlin Milk Stout with treats from Specialty Brown Butter Cookie Co. Pangaea’s no stranger to food that feels (and tastes) good. Last year they claimed the #11 spot for best burger in the world at the World Food Competition in Florida.
