Trees Take Root in the Fall

Spring and summer may seem the ideal time to plant and revamp yards and landscaping, but most experts agree that fall is the prime season for planting trees. Early spring is also an auspicious time, but can be hindered by heavy showers or early season heat waves.

Fall generally offers more moderate temperatures over a longer period of time. Soil temperatures remain warm through early October, allowing root systems to acclimate before cold weather arrives. While the Sacramento area has a relatively mild climate, newly planted trees do best when exposed to moderate temperatures and rainfall before being exposed to either intense heat or freezing temperatures.
