Sacramento – The Farm to Fork Capital
Sacramentans love food all year long. But come September, local food lovers, farms, chefs, winemakers, and brewers come together to celebrate not just the food on the table, but the entire region’s culinary landscape.
The Farm to Fork Week Celebration, held September 10-27, includes countless events, including everything from farm tours and street fairs to special farm-to-fork meals and wine tastings. While the term and idea of “farm to fork” may have peaked as a trend, it’s still a way of life in Sacramento and its surrounding counties.
The Sacramento region contains 1.5 million acres of regional farmland, 8,000 acres of boutique farms, and 70 percent of the region’s land is agricultural, forest or other open space. No major city in America is more centrally located amid such a vast range of high-quality farms, ranches and vineyards.
The pinnacle of the event may be the September 27 Tower Bridge dinner, which sold out in 15 seconds, but there are still ample opportunities to take part in the festivities. The Legends of Wine (presented by Lexus) takes place September 17 on the West Steps of the Capitol; the TBD Fest September 18-20 in West Sacramento’s Bridge District; and the Farm to Fork Festival September 26 on the Capitol Mall, featuring food, wine, and beer vendors, along with farm displays, kids’ activities, cooking demonstrations, live music and more.
