Lyon Cares Foundation Grants $5,000 to Family Promise of Sacramento

The Lyon Cares Foundation announced today that Family Promise of Sacramento is the recipient of a $5,000 grant. Family Promise is a local non-profit organization assisting families to get back on their feet with a myriad of solutions from case management to short-term housing with the eventual goal of moving those families into their own homes.

Operated by Lyon Real Estate, the Lyon Cares Foundation provides grants to organizations that provide food and shelter to those in need in the Greater Sacramento Area. Funds are raised through donations by Lyon agents and staff throughout the year in addition to Lyon’s annual Charity Golf Tournament.

“Family Promise of Sacramento provides a life changing experience for families,” said Marsha Spell, Executive Director. “After a stay with us, they leave with a different view point as well as substantial savings for transitional or permanent housing. It’s the first time some of these families have ever had a savings account. More than providing shelter and basic needs, we teach families how to budget and save for a better tomorrow.”

Family Promise of Sacramento opened its doors in April 2005, placing only four families into housing. Family Promise placed 31 families into transitional or permanent housing in 2014, with plans to increase that number with new programs being developed. As part of their mission to help families from all walks of life, Family Promise works with all houses of faith in the Greater Sacramento area as a way of showing that helping others is universal.

“It gives us great pride to be able to provide positive change in the lives of the individuals that Family Promise helps through the Lyon Cares Foundation,” said Lyon Real Estate president Pat Shea. “Family Promise gives a fresh start to many families and individuals who have come on hard times right here in our community.”

Several times each year the Lyon Cares Foundation presents grants to non-profits that provide food and shelter to those in need, that have been nominated by Lyon Real Estate agents.
