Eclectic Events Keep Summer Alive into August

Summer may be more than half way over for most people, but the final days of the season are still teeming with events in and around Sacramento.

August 6 – See Jaws at the Crocker Art Museum’s Courtyard Classic Film Series. This Spielberg classic was the advent of the summer blockbuster – setting the tone and raising the bar for all big summer movies. See it again, as it was intended on the big screen.

August 7  – Guns and Hoses Wine, Brew & Food Festival is a festive gathering and benefit for Sacramento area fire departments and law enforcement. Held at the Sacramento Marriott in Rancho Cordova, the evening features local wineries, breweries, and restaurants.

August 8 – River City Marketplace at Cesar Chavez Park will eventually take place monthly. For now, this quarterly gathering showcases local talents and products in a fun atmosphere. More than 100 vendors are on hand to showcase fine arts and crafts, gourmet food, and live music and entertainment.

August 14 – The Colfax Art Walk puts a slightly different spin on the historic town, when shops and restaurants feature the works of regional artists, who are also on hand to discuss their works.

August 15 – Sac Zoo’s Ice Cream Safari teams up with Baskin Robbins for an afternoon full of all-you-can-eat ice cream cones, sundaes, and floats throughout the 14-acre zoo. It’s a dream outing for kids (and adults) of all ages. Can’t get enough of the zoo? Check out the Family Overnight Safaris August 1 and 7.

August 22 – Race for the Arts & Arts Festival is a low-key 5K course through William Land Park (with live entertainment to keep runners grooving), followed by an Arts Festival with hands-on visual, cultural, performing, and literary arts.
