Staging Set to Music?

A little light music during an open house sounds like a good idea, though not all realtors agree. Some suggest that engaging the five senses of a potential buyer is a good thing (comforting smells like fresh-baked cookies are an unarguable necessity in successful showings). Others worry that the music selection may turn some buyers off.

A recent article by Daily Real Estate News sides with the former, noting the importance of creating a memorable experience. It also acknowledges the awkward noises of footsteps echoing through a perhaps uncomfortably quiet home. Having music in the background helps cultivate a welcoming space.

The choice of music, however, must be chosen with care. The music should be played lightly in the background and not overpower the experience. Classical or light jazz (no vocals) is the preferred choice among most realtors.
