Father’s Day Fun All Around

Often times Father’s Day can be a bit overlooked. Mom gets the big brunch and flowers while dads unfortunately can get lost in the flurry of graduations and end-of-school year excitement.

No need to worry about finding something to do, as the area offers events for nearly every dad in every town this side of the Central Valley. The following list of events all take place on dad’s designated day – Sunday, June 21.

Second Annual Rides in Classics – Dads get in free at this event held at the California Automobile Museum, and even get the opportunity to ride in some of the museum’s most amazing classic cars.

Father’s Day BBQ and Western Show – Held on West Sac’s Sacramento River Train, this ride back to the Wild West includes a western show and barbeque and buffet lunch at Elkhorn Park. A Father’s Day Beer Train is scheduled for Saturday evening.

Davis Music Fest – This may be the ideal outing for hipster dads and those just with an immense love of music. The festival is actually a three-day event featuring nearly 40 bands at more than eight venues. Coordinated by a non-profit organization called Music Only Makes Sense, the June 19-21 festival benefits local schools’ art, music, and performing arts departments.

Grass Valley Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival – More music can be found at this fun foothill event. Held at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, this 40th annual festival runs from June 19-21 and features nearly two dozen bands.

Sacramento Comic Con – Because dads are still kids at heart. This three-day event with a mega following will feature Norman Reedus (Walking Dead), Henry Winkler (Happy Days), Danny Trejo (Machete), Malcolm McDowell (Clockwork Orange), Scott Wilson (Walking Dead), Sean Patrick Flanery (Boondock Saints), Christian Serratos (Walking Dead, Twilight), Jason Mewes (Clerks), and numerous other entertainers, artists, and creators.

River Cats vs. the Reno Aces – When all else fails, there is always baseball. Honor dad by celebrating America’s favorite pastime. The game starts at 1:05 and will also feature pregame player autographs, and (for the kids) face painters, balloon artists, and the opportunity run the bases after the game.
