Sacramento Ranked Among Fittest Cities

Sacramento found itself among another top ten list this week – this time being recognized as one of America’s Fittest Cities. Comprised by the American College of Sports Medicine and the Anthem Foundation, the annual American Fitness Index judged cities on variety of outdoor activity and access to public parks, as well as rates of smoking, obesity, and diabetes.

The Washington-Arlington-Virginia-Alexandria area topped the list. The Sacramento-Roseville-Arden-Arcade Area ranked fourth, right behind San Diego and San Francisco, and above the renowned active urban areas of Denver, Portland, and Boston.

A number of amenities and attractions influence and inspire area residents to keep fit. Thousands of cyclists, runners, and walkers take advantage of the American River Trail every day and world-class hiking trails and ski slopes are just a short drive away. The region is also home to numerous out-of-the-box gyms and athletic clubs, like Pipeworks Climbing and Fitness, Capital Athletic Club, Rocklin Sports Complex, and the Roseville Sports Center.
