Murphys – NorCal’s Little Known Wine Getaway

The Sierra Foothills are teeming with historic hamlets, but few live up to the charm and overall convenience of Murphys.

Located an hour east of Stockton on Highway 4, this Gold Rush staple now embraces modern day tourism without an ounce of kitsch. More than two dozen wineries are nestled in the countryside surrounding the area with more than a handful operating tasting rooms along the bustling Main Street. With several inns and cottages dotting this historic stroll-worthy strip, wine tasting has never been more convenient or inviting.

Galleries and boutiques are abundant, featuring everything from upscale apparel and mountain gear to tea, books, and nurseries. The Windy Hill Lavender Boutique and Lila and Sage’s Cupcake Store serve to round out a long list of decadent treats.
