Side Dishes Make Midtown’s Sticky Gator Great

For those expecting Southern comfort food, Sticky Gator in Sac’s trendy midtown neighborhood is more BBQ than soul food. And, it doesn’t disappoint especially when it comes to its side dishes.

Diners order their platters at the counter. We tried a little of everything – BBQ pulled pork, BBQ chicken and BBQ St. Louis ribs. All were good.

What really stood out, however, were the restaurant’s side dishes. The best black-eyed peas I’ve ever had, decadent corn bread, heavily buttered mashed potatoes and gravy, mac and cheese, as well as corn bread stuffing. I can’t wait to go back to try the collard greens, candied yams and green beans with bacon and onions.

The downside – it’s expensive ($40 for the three of us) and they haven’t yet received their liquor license. Meaning no beer with your BBQ.
